How to calculate hand totals and the third card rule
In Baccarat, 10, Jack, Queen, and King are worth zero (0), and Ace is worth 1. Cards 2 through 9 are worth their face value. If the total exceeds 10, the tens digit is dropped and only the units digit counts. For example, 7 + 8 = 15 becomes 5.
Whether a third card is drawn is handled automatically by the dealer. If the Player's initial total is 0–5, a third card is drawn; if it is 6–7, the Player stands. The dealer decides whether the Banker draws a third card based on the Player's third card, so players do not need to memorise this rule.
If either the Player or Banker has an initial total of 8 or 9, it is called a "Natural" and the result is settled immediately with no further cards drawn. This is the strongest opening outcome in Baccarat.
